LA VENOSTA - A BRAND NEW RACE ENTERS SEASON X CALENDAR
La Venosta is a completely new ski event in the Venosta Valley in Northern Italy, the western part of South Tyrol. The distance of the race is 45 km and it takes place for the first time on Saturday the 14th of December 2019.
The race has a challenging course with many demanding climbs. The first 10 km of the race is a one-way stretch, after which the course has five 7 km laps for pro skiers and three laps for recreational skiers, who start their race after the finish of the Pro Skiers. The race starts at 1.750 m a.s.l in Kapron and highest point during the course is at Melago Alm which also holds the two climb checkpoints for the Visma Ski Classics climb competition.
The La Venosta Valley has a popular ski area in the region, Slingia Nordic Ski Center near Watles. A moderately difficult trail leads from Slingia at 1.726 m a.s.l. to the Schliniger Alm Alpine pasture with a total height distance of 230 meters.
The famous tourist attractions of the area are the Romanesque church tower in the Resia/Reschen lake, the old Roman road “Via Claudia Augusta”, the small medieval town of Glorenza, the Coira Castle, one of the most impressive renaissance castles in the Alps, and the Venosta Valley Train transporting passengers from Merano/Meran to Malles/Mals along the “sun mountain”. The region is mostly German speaking and its German name is Vinschgau.
